My Longboard setup

For the time being I think I have quite a nice longboard setup for my style of skating. I like to slide quite a bit which is reflected in my choices of equipment.

Deck: Landyachtz Switchblade

Landyachtz Switchblade

In my opinion its a great deck. The extremely aggressive drop is great for pushing around and makes sliding a bit easier. The wood could be a little harder (I have some nice dents in each end) but that’s not a huge issue. It is Extremely low even when top mounted. Every review will talk about how well the W concave “locks your feet in”  and its true. Oh and did I say it’s low?

Trucks: Adam Colton Paris/  P-randalsAdam Colton Paris 180's

For my regular cruising and some downhill carving I use Adam Colton’s signature paris 180 trucks. These trucks make my board extremely nimble and easy to slide at lower speeds. Makes for a lot of fun even on flat ground. I run soft green Venom barrels road side and the stock black barrels that come with the A/C trucks.

For downhill I like to ride the Paris hangar on a Randal Rii 42 degree baseplate. The randal baseplates are nice and cheap so it ends up being quite cheap for a nice stable downhill truck setup. All you have to do is get a set of pivot cups and trim them down to take the paris hangar. The hangar pin does take a bit of force to insert into the pivot cup but after a bit of use it is fine.

Wheels: Orangatang Durian, Seismic Bootlegs and soon Metro motions

Orangatang Durian

Durians are great for speed as they are 75mm and have a nice wide contact patch. At lower speeds they tend to have quite a bit of chatter in the slides. I do quite like them for cruising.

Seismic Bootlegs

The seismic bootlegs are the ones that Hopkin skate in Australia accidentally sent me. They were not what I ordered but I do like how they feel in the slides. The only issue is that they leave quite a bit of eurathane on the road when they slide.

I have yet to receive my metro motions so I will update when I do.

Bearings: Bones Reds

Bearings are bearings. As long as they spin smoothly they are not really going to effect your riding much.

Over all my setup is quite nimble and close to the ground. There is a little bit of an issue with wheel bite when using the 75mm wheels but you have to be turning quite sharp for that to be a real issue. The randal rii baseplates make it nice and stable for high speed too.

Awesome skate shop

So, I recently bought some wheels from a skate shop in Australia. They offered me free shipping to New Zealand where I live which I thought was pretty cool. My order consisted of a set of Red Metro Motion wheels for me and some pivot cups for my flatmate. Now, the package arrived at our flat yesterday and I open the package to find a set of Seismic Bootlegs instead of the metro motions.

I decided to send the shop an email about the mix-up and through an email conversation they let me keep the wrong wheels as well as sending a set of the ones i originally ordered! What a bargain! Thanks a million to Hopkin skate Australia for great customer service and awesome transtasman shipping.
